Accommodation near the clinic: a hotel, an apartment or an adapted room for patients and their companions

After surgery, your accommodation becomes part of your recovery: this is where you rest, take your medicines, care for the wound and wait for your follow-up appointment. So we choose an option not by how attractive the photos are but by the doctor's restrictions: a lift, the distance to the clinic, a step-free entrance, a kitchen for a special diet and a quiet room. You pay directly to the hotel or the owner, and we book in a way that means a change in your discharge date does not cost you money.

  • Close to the clinicWe measure distance by driving time, not on a map

  • Access checkedPhotos of the lift, entrance and bathroom before you book

  • Flexible datesIf discharge is postponed, we extend the booking

Tell us the clinic or city, your dates, the number of people and the doctor's restrictions. We will send you two or three checked options in English, in Russian or in another language that suits you.

The clinic's treatment plan or the doctor's recommendations, if you have them

Viewing options is not a booking; we book a room only once you have chosen it and confirmed the price and terms in writing.

In short: how we choose and book accommodation

  • Before choosing an option, we ask the clinic what restrictions you will have after the procedure: stairs, showering, sitting, diet.
  • We offer you two or three options with photos of the entrance, lift, bed and bathroom, the exact address and the travel time to the clinic.
  • The booking is made in your name, and you pay directly to the hotel or the apartment owner.
  • If any provider pays us a commission, we tell you before you choose.
  • We book the first nights firmly and the last days on flexible cancellation terms, because the discharge date often changes.
  • The booking confirmation will also be useful at the border if you are asked for proof of accommodation.

A hotel, an apartment or an adapted room: which suits you?

The right choice depends on the length of treatment, the number of people with you and how independently you will be able to get around after surgery.

Types of accommodation compared for international patients: when each is best, its advantages and what we check
Type Best for Advantages What we check in advance
Hotel A short visit, tests or an outpatient procedure, one or two guests Daily cleaning, a 24-hour reception, breakfast, someone always nearby Lift, which floor the room is on, noise from the street or a bar, a fridge in the room
Apartment A stay of more than a week, a family or several companions, a special diet Kitchen, washing machine, a separate room for a companion, your own routine Stairs at the entrance, whether there is a lift, whether the owner can be reached at night, heating and air conditioning
Adapted room Getting around in a wheelchair or on crutches, the period after joint or spine surgery Step-free entrance, wide doors, a shower without a bath edge, grab rails The actual width of doors and lift, the height of the bed, room to turn a wheelchair

Different hotels mean different things by "adapted": for some, it is just a grab rail in the bathroom. That is why we confirm such a room only on the basis of measurements and photos, not a catalogue label. If the room's equipment is not enough, we can deliver a hospital bed, a commode chair or a wheelchair through our medical equipment hire service, which is part of our post-operative care services.

What matters in your accommodation after surgery?

A detail that means nothing to a healthy traveller, such as two steps at the entrance or a high bath edge, becomes a daily obstacle after surgery. So we check the room against this list and compare each point with your doctor's restrictions.

  • Lift and entrance. The lift must stop at every floor, and there should be no threshold or steps up to the building door; for a wheelchair user, we also measure the lift car.
  • Distance to the clinic. A short distance means less tiredness on follow-up visits and a quick return if the doctor calls you in. We judge distance by driving time in rush hour.
  • Bathroom. A shower without a bath edge, a non-slip floor and a grab rail often matter more than the size of the room.
  • Kitchen and fridge. For a special diet, for example after bariatric surgery, you need your own kitchen; and some medicines have to be kept in a fridge.
  • Quiet and air. A room facing the courtyard, away from night bars and street noise, with working heating and air conditioning, because summers in Georgia are hot and winters in the mountains are cold.
  • The bed and space for a companion. Getting up from a very low bed is hard after surgery, and a companion needs a separate bed so that the patient can sleep undisturbed.
  • Internet. You need a stable connection for video calls, both with your doctor at home and with the interpreter.

How long each restriction lasts is for the treating doctor to decide: we use these restrictions only to choose a room and do not give medical advice. If you need care or nurse visits at your accommodation after discharge, these are arranged by the care after surgery service, at the same address.

How selection and booking work

Four steps from your first message to the day you arrive. At every step, the decision is yours.

  1. A list of your needs

We put together the clinic's address, the treatment schedule, the doctor's restrictions, the number of companions and the budget range you give us. We do not offer an option above your budget unless we have explained the reason in advance.

  2. Two or three options

Each comes with the address, the distance to the clinic, the nightly price, the cancellation terms and photos of the places rarely shown in an advertising gallery: the entrance, the lift, the bathroom.

  3. Booking in your name

We book your chosen option in your name and send you the confirmation in English. If you are applying for a visa or an e-visa, this confirmation can also serve as proof of accommodation.

  4. A check before you arrive

A few days before you arrive, we confirm the room, the floor, any extra bed and the check-in time with the provider, so that you can go straight from the airport to rest and do not have to wait in the lobby.

Whom do you pay, how, and what happens if discharge is postponed?

Payment directly to the provider

You pay for accommodation directly to the hotel or the apartment owner, on their terms, and the receipt is issued in your name. Our work, that is finding, checking, booking and changes, is part of the coordination service, whose fee is agreed in writing before work begins. If a hotel or owner pays us a commission, we note this next to the option, so that you can make your choice knowing it.

What you should know about cards

We check the payment method before booking, because not every card works in Georgia. According to the National Bank of Georgia, no bank or payment service provider registered in Georgia services the Mir system, and Visa cards issued in Russia do not work outside Russia, according to Visa itself. We cannot promise you a specific payment method: it is established with each provider in advance. General questions of costs and payment are explained in our costs and payment guide.

Flexible dates

The day of discharge is the doctor's decision, and it may be postponed by several days. That is why we book the first nights at a fixed price and the last days on free cancellation or change terms, where the provider allows it. When the doctor postpones discharge, we arrange the extension of the booking and, if needed, keep the same room. When extending, we always check one thing: your permitted length of stay, because a short-term visa cannot be extended in Georgia; details are on the visa and entry page.

Companions and longer stays

While the patient is in hospital, a companion's accommodation should be close to the clinic, so that they can get there on foot or with a short journey during visiting hours. After discharge, the patient moves into the same apartment or room, so we often choose from the outset an option that will work for both periods and avoids an unnecessary move.

When you come with children, we check for a cot, the number of rooms and that a pharmacy and a shop are close by. For lengthy treatment, for example several cycles of therapy, an apartment at a monthly rate is often more sensible than a hotel; in such cases we prepare an English or Russian translation of the rental agreement, so that you understand the terms before you sign. Trips from the airport to your accommodation and from there to the clinic are planned by our airport pick-up and transport service, and the whole journey, from choosing a clinic to returning home, is described on the main page for international patients.

Frequently asked questions about accommodation

How much does accommodation near the clinic cost?

There is no fixed price: it depends on the city, the neighbourhood, the season, the type of room and the length of stay, and a monthly rent for an apartment usually works out better than a nightly rate. That is why we do not quote a price until we have checked specific options for your dates. Each offer shows the nightly or monthly price, what it includes, such as breakfast or cleaning, and the cancellation terms. You give us your budget limit at the outset, and we stay within it.

Can I book a hotel myself and order only transport from you?

Of course. If you book accommodation yourself, send us the address and we will check how long the journey to the clinic takes and whether the building has a lift. If climbing stairs or getting into a bath will be difficult for you after surgery, we will tell you before you book, while changing the room is still free of charge. We will fit the airport pick-up, daily transport and the interpreter to the address you have chosen, so this does not complicate anything.

What happens if the doctor postpones my discharge or clearance to fly?

This is a common situation, and we book with it in mind from the start: the last nights on flexible cancellation or change terms. When the doctor gives you a new date, we contact the provider, extend the booking and, wherever possible, keep the same room. At the same time, we check whether your permitted stay covers the new date and change the schedule for the pick-up and the airport transfer. If an extension at the same place is not possible, we find an option nearby.

Can a caregiver or nurse come to the hotel?

Usually yes, although some hotels have their own rules on receiving outside visitors, so we find this out before booking. In an apartment it is simpler: a nurse can dress a wound or give an injection at an agreed time, and a caregiver can stay for a few hours or the whole day. If the caregiver also needs to stay overnight, we choose an option with a separate bed or room. Nurse visits and the choice of caregiver are arranged by the post-operative care service, at your accommodation address and on your schedule.

Why not simply book the cheapest option near the clinic?

A cheap option is often the right choice if the patient walks unaided and the visit is short. But after surgery, a fourth floor without a lift, a noisy street or a bathroom with a high bath edge creates extra costs: taxis, moving elsewhere, sometimes a new problem as well. So we compare prices not only by the nightly rate but also by how much transport, help and worry you will save. The final choice is always yours; we simply show you the real conditions of each option.
